Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline of Scotland’s capital city and is home to important national symbols, such as the Honours of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny and Mons Meg.
So it’s only right that a world class visitor attraction should have its own world class website.
With such an important project there was a lot for us to get stuck into. From creating a detailed brief of what the new website should do for you, our users, to producing exciting new designs and great new content.
We involved you throughout the project too. Running user surveys was a really insightful way to find out what you thought of the old website, and what you expected from the new one.
With people using mobiles and tablets more and more, a responsively designed website (one that looks great, whether you’re at your desktop PC at home, or using your mobile on the bus) was important.
Now everyone can easily access the information, regardless of device. It gives instant access to Scotland’s most popular and iconic visitor attraction, allowing you to buy your tickets in advance and enjoy fast track entry.
The site now boasts some great new photography designed to capture your imagination and give you an insight into the magic of a visit to the castle. Our new and improved events section makes planning your next day out at the ‘defender of the nation’ almost as much fun as a visit!
One of the features we really like is the timeline, guiding you through life at the castle from way back in 900BC until today – fascinating stuff.
We’ve been receiving lots of great feedback from you too, please keep it coming:
Really showcases the imagery and event information superbly.
Clearer, simpler, faster, with excellent and modern information architecture.
To top it all off, in the short time the website has been available it’s already been named ‘Best Online Site’ at the Institute of Internal Communcations awards held in early 2016.
It’s fantastic to have the new website recognised for excellence so quickly!
