The glass award and the team standing on stage

My colleagues and I were let lose to attend the Institute of Internal Communications (IoIC) Awards, held at Dynamic Earth on Friday 3 March. Our new Historic Environment Scotland website had been nominated as ‘best online site’, so we waited with baited breath for the ceremony to begin.

Alastair Scott, IoIC Scotland Regional Director, hosted the event, with former Scotland Rugby Player, John Beattie as compere for the evening’s celebrations. More than 100 internal communication professionals from across Scotland were there with us, with awards presented across 21 categories including printed publications, audio and visual, social media, strategy, team and outstanding contribution to the communication industry.

And what a successful night it turned out to be! We not only won the ‘best online site’ category but our membership magazine was also crowned ‘best member publication’.

A 2-year project

The website – which was a joint project between the Communication team and digital partners Storm ID – was launched in May 2016. Since then it has gained excellent feedback both externally and internally as well as performing statistically well and increasing income generation.

We worked with Storm ID to develop a new website which would meet our audience needs and business requirements as well as providing us with a stable platform for on-going development and improvement and allowing us to rationalise the suite of legacy websites.

Our Digital Manager Ruth Quinn said:

It’s fantastic to be recognised for the hard work that went into this important project and I’d like to thank everyone involved in the project for their expertise and professionalism, including our external partners Storm ID. We have an excellent site that we’re all proud off and this award is testament to that.”

We’ve been receiving lots of great feedback from you, please keep it coming. Get in touch with us using our contact form or email us at website@hes.scot

We had a great night! Now I wonder what other awards we can enter…
