Jessica Secmezsoy-Urquhart (they/them) is a historian, filmmaker, and writer of Scottish and Turkish heritage. They recently completed a PhD at the University of St Andrews on Renaissance disability history, exploring the roles of neurodiverse fools and bodily diverse people in royal courts. An autistic, disabled, working-class and LGBT creative, Jessica is also a video contributor for BBC The Social, producing documentaries on topics ranging from disabled subcultures and film representation to historical investigations and critiques of autism “cures.” Their work combines academic expertise with a passion for inclusive storytelling and cultural heritage.
